A swivel chair changes the way a sitting area is used. It can face a companion, a window or the rest of the room, so a rug layout needs to work through that movement—not just in one carefully posed photograph.

The large black form occupies one side, while the burgundy block and pink line give the other side a lighter visual counterweight. Neither chair needs to be centered on a motif.

Measure the full sweep of each chair, including the back and arms, in the position you intend to use. Check the gap to the neighboring chair, side table and wall throughout the turn.
