Plum and Ivory Moroccan Trellis Rug – Diamond Lattice Hand Knotted Wool Shag, Beni Mrirt

A plum and ivory Moroccan trellis rug, hand-knotted in thick Beni Mrirt wool. A Beni Ourain-style diamond lattice of straight 2 in lines in undyed natural dark-brown wool runs off all four edges of a warm ivory field, with diamonds about 24 in wide and 30 in tall. About one diamond in six is filled solid with deep plum or soft heather lilac, scattered so that no two filled diamonds touch. The brown lines are knotted a little taller than the ivory, so the lattice stands in soft relief.

The dark brown is natural, undyed fleece rather than black, so the contrast stays warm. The plum and lilac are wash-tested and only ever meet the brown, never the ivory, and two lots of each are woven in on purpose for gentle tonal movement. It suits a living room, bedroom or dining room, and as a runner it carries the lattice down a hallway.
