Contemporary Mrirt rugs have their origins around the village of Mrirt in the highlands of the Middle Atlas Mountains. 
The Mrirt tribes are nomadic, roaming with their herds from pasture to pasture. 
Tribal rug making was, and continues to be, an integral part of their culture, with techniques used in production passed down from generation to generation, for time immemorial, and using the fine wool from their herds. 
Mrirt rugs were always considered noble rugs due to their superior quality and comfort.
